WHO OWNS HISTORY?
Starting as a critical response towards a nonreflective replication of cultural myths and fantasies, the ARbotage App was created by Nando Nkrumah to release new impulses in the western art world. Using AR (Augmented Reality) technology the App was developed and published to act as an empowering counter-movement to "sabotage" museums that contain colonial legacy in their artworks.
In a digital way, the app replaces historic paintings with over-painted and collage-style images on the user's smartphone.
The first ARbotage took place beginning of 2019 in the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne questioning the validity of the curation. It has featured more than 90 works based on digital over paintings and collages created by Rebekka Macht and Nando Nkrumah.
The ARbotage had a mind blowing impact on many people creating mental freedom and anticipating a society with historical room for everybody tackling Europes and America's Colonial legacy with an artistic approach.
